Q:
Would recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA) work for patients with CADASIL?

A:

rtPA has never been tested in CADASIL patients.  It is recommend rtPA for treating acute stroke in CADASIL patients except if a large artery (not usually affected in CADASIL)
is occluded. It is thought that the risk of hemorrhage related to this treatment is too high in CADASIL that can cause in some cases intracerebral hemorrhage.
