Q:
"A young woman in my family who is 35 years old carries the CADASIL gene. She suffered two optic neuritis. It is said to her that this is not related to the disease. But it is not reassuring for her. What is your opinion?"

A:

(Pr. Chabriat and Dr. Hervé) There is no link between optic neuritis, which is an inflammation of the optic nerve, and CADASIL. It is a manifestation of an inflammatory disease, such as multiple sclerosis, while CADASIL is a vascular disease.  (2016 General Assembly France)
